61st ALDEBURGH FESTIVAL
OF MUSIC AND THE ARTS
13-29 JUNE 2008
New Sculpture - Shadows of the Wanderer

The Big Shed, Stanny House Farm, Iken
Open daily from 14 to 28 June, 2 - 6 pm

The focus on Ana Maria Pacheco is a major new sculptural
group, Shadows of the Wanderer, which is being shown for the first time in the Big Shed, Stanny House Farm, Iken.

Ten over life-size figures crowd close together and stand
as looming shadows behind a young man carrying an older
man on his back. This new group recalls the tale of Aeneas,
who carries his father Anchises from the ruins of Troy, but it
also powerfully resonates with current issues, particularly
the displacement of people.

‘... she reinterprets [the] narratives in counterpoint with present- day cultural tensions ... introducing a whole new and surprising repertoire of artistic references’
